Facts of 10 - the beginning

Shifty Shapes is an AIMS activity.  The students are trying to make a hexagon several different ways
Top it is a great app using cards and addition. It also throws in a little greater than and less than as well.
BBC has this great online game for shorting shapes, it is a little hard at the beginning, but it uses the words faces and edges and vertices, and it is very additive - they LOVE this game.

This parking lot game is a play off of an old game from the beginning of the year from Heidi Song.  The students each have a bag of a certain color domino and they pick out a "car" and place it in the correct parking lot.  So a domino with 3+4 dots, would be placed in the Parking lot 7.  I printed an extra 1 and 2 to make the 11 and 12.
And here we are working on ten, One die, a marker, egg carton and this set of cards.
This has been a great introduction to the ten cubes.  I have had the students play as a team and take turns so they can check each other and help to make a set of ten.  I will not do this one for very long, but I do like having the students work with these and at least be familiar with this.

Making 9 and Tens a different way

This is a great little App from iLearn.  They have several great ones, this one have count, calculate, and order.  I use the Guided access on the iTouch to "lock" the students on so they don't wander off.  Works like a charm!
This is an activity where I am trying to introduce ten in a different way.  They see the ten frame every day and we work with these on the smart board, but they have never held these in their hands and created numbers with these.  They were to draw a number, create the number, and compare their number with their friends number to see which one is greater or more - we even used the greater than sign today!
I have a symbaloo I created and you may want to use this as a great math tool.  But this game is just a little addition game that had them adding various items.
Race to the top - the students simply roll two die with numbers on each one 0 - 5 and they add the numbers and write the addition equation on the square above the correct answer - so 3+1 is 4 so they would find the four on the graph and write 3+1 above it.  They are racing to the top of their paper to see which one has the most.
This is the same ol same ol, but we moved to nine, this week I did not write the numbers in the egg carton, I figure they should know that 9 is one less than 10.  It went just fine today.
And we did this as a review, plus I don't like to introduce too many new ones in the same day.  They are just making a shape using MORE than one shape.

100th day Math tubs

We finally made it to the 100th day of school.  We started the day off with a hat made with 10, ten frames with 100 dots made with markers.  We counted out 100 things to eat for snack, we weighed various items that had 100 things and placed them in order by weight.  (cotton ball, quips, paper plates, pennies, spoons, craft sticks, beans, straws, toothpicks, etc)  We then ended our day in math tubs doing 6 different stations.  Here they are:

Here we are making an old project of a hot dog dog by counting by tens - it is a very cute little dog they all loved doing.

The students were filling out the ten frame here with a little help if they needed it, some students I stopped at 30 and sent to the computer to play this game.  Others went over when they finished.

I had a great volunteer working with this station - 100 seconds - how many squats, push ups, hopping on one foot, etc can you do?

This is just a sheet that the sudents made ten sets of ten unifix cubes.

Here is a coloring sheet with the number 100 that they have a math addition problem to solve and color it the correct color.

and here 100 stickers and guessing how many in the jars and if the number was more or less than 100.  Busy busy day and truthfully so glad it is over!!
