February Fun in Kindergarten Math

Here you go for February!

Counting 3D shapes and recording the number.

This activity pack is full of teen numbers and addition.  Anything with a dot marker is a lot of fun! AND it's free!

 Love this game, covers so many different ways to make teen numbers.

In and out game and be found here, this has been a hit for sure!  The students drop cubes and see which ones went in the circle and which ones are out of the circle and then they write a math equation.  It has gone really great!  So nice because you can change the number and the items you drop to go with the fact family you are working on.

This game from Lakeshore is one you can download onto your computer, it is $19.99 but you get 4 games in one and you can put it on your computers very easily.

This is another little freebie that tied in great with my Polar unit and measurement.  I used a ruler to set across the top of the animals to talk about even with the top.  I also used this as a time to discuss length and width.

This is so much fun!  I have "fresh" marshmallows for those friends who don't eat our yucky ones and it seems to work great.  Now I do still have the few that smell each one as they count, but that's ok!

Teen counting is here, they simply count the dots and pick the correct number.

Just a little matching game for numbers, I am not sure where I found this, but it shouldn't be hard to make!

December Madness (oops Fun I meant!)

Welcome to the Madness Fun!

I always start the month off with all of the ornaments we will make for our parents, so here is the first one - skill: patterns.  I just use a pipe cleaner and the tri colored beads, cut a little holly leave to put their initials on and tie a ribbon.

Here they are building a tree out of three different size craft sticks.  We paint them and then place them in order by size. (skill: order by size)  Then we decorate them with sequence from Michaels.

Snowman - Skill: following directions. :)  Using a tongue depressor, sticky back felt, wiggly eyes, and a felt nose.  Then I let the students make the mouth and dots on the front.

Reindeer ornament - Skill:  again following directions and counting out pieces.  Just using regular craft sticks.

 Christmas tree count:  Just roll the die and place that many pom poms on the tree.

Stackum game - students roll the teen dice and place that a stacker on that number.  At the end of the game see which number had the most.

Counting on game:  Draw a card, count off from that number until the teacher ask you to stop and move a space.  This is just a blank board and blank cards that I just wrote numbers on - pretty simple to make. :)

Christmas stamps - students roll the die and stamp that number of stamps on their paper.

This station is making 5, the students are given 10 pieces, 5 of each color and they show different ways to make 5 and write the equation.

Ordinal - here is a game I made for ordinals, you can see what you do and it needs to be a teacher led station.

Writing numbers, one side has all of the number and the other side has just one number they may need to work on.

Rub a number - students rub a number that is just poster board cut numbers on a piece of poster board, naked crayons (crayons without paper so they can rub it on the side), long strip of paper.

Shape roll, read and show game.

Working on facts of 6

 Here is the Smart board lesson I have made for 6, it is just like 5 but I now wrote the number 6 on each screen so they remember we are working on SIX and not 5 anymore.  They move some of one and some of another and make six, writing how many of each they have and then writing the math sentence under it - still working on that part as you can see, but progress has been made! :)

 Same game from last week, but I bumped it up to making 6.  I used an egg carton cut down to 10.  I then wrote the numbers 1-6 in the bottom of each, leaving 7-10 with no numbers.  The students roll the dice and and put that number of red ones in the ten frame.  They then fill up the other numbers with blue so in the end, they just have 6 pieces in the egg carton.  Then they write down how many red ones and how many blue ones. 

We played gamebone again today because they enjoyed it on 100th day and not everyone had a chance to play as long as they would like.  Great game.

 Save the Snowman is a great little bump game I have used before.  The students are adding numbers and covering up the number they get.  They can bump a friend off if they only have one on the number they need, but if they have two locked on then they can't knock off the friend.

 Counting Plus - a great game, hands down a favorite of mine.

 

Teen bingo, I decided to make this an independent station for math, they draw a ten frame card and cover up that number.  It went very well and I hope they will start to count OFF from the known 10 - fingers crossed!

 Here are the students building with TP rolls and paper plates. I have them numbered 11 - 21 and they are to stack the tubes in order.  I put a number 21 so they can see the difference and so I can see who noticed!

 Counting Race is a great app that up to four children can play at a time.  You can add, subtract and just count numbers.

The bowl game is a great game I have shown before, but today we bumped up to 6 and practiced writing our math sentence LONG ways.  This was a new thing for us. :)

 I used an old game I made up and added a little twist to it - taking a 1 1/2 by 1 1/2 piece of paper, I had the children write the teen number instead of just matching it as we have done before.

This is a great teen game.  It uses several different ways to show the teen numbers in a cute little game!
